From the depths of the Bay Area, Needle To The Groove has dug up another rising talent. Meet Edgewize, a young Bay Area MC whose delivery is a torrent of interlocking themes and literary references, paired up with DJ Platurn for their first release, Apatheater.

NTTG is proud to release their debut EP, a 5 tracker of minimalistic obscure loops over jet streams of rhymes. Beats by Platurn, rhymes by Edgewize. DJ Platurn, is the Pete Rock to Edgewize’s CL Smooth, the Eric B. to his Rakim. For fans of lo-fi beats and intelligent yet playful lyrics.

‘Breaking The Ice’ now available on bandcamp!

[alternate unreleased cover by Thordis Claessen | thordisc.com]

The love for this mix just won’t quit. After almost a year and a half we’re still getting folks from across the planet inquiring about the project and the material within. And since we’re close to running out of the bonus tracks cassingles, we decided to put a little package deal together for y’all on bandcamp. Limited supplies so don’t sleep, and for 1st time ever the HQ download is included. Take advantage cuz when it’s done it’s donezo for good. Enjoy!

First 7″ i’ve been on in a while, a remix for Superjock Records of Warren Lee’s “Underdog Backstreet”, a funky little NOLA number that I spiced up with just the right amount of chunky drums and vocal shouts. Gold wax, heavy stock sleeve, and custom ‘NOLAOAK’ sticker. Out now via Fat Beats — cop it here and preview below…

Catch myself and Professor Shorthair promoting the release with a string of shows and appearances throughout LA in a couple weeks & a special release party in Oakland on fat tuesday with my MJ’s Brass Boppers family — enjoy!

Top 10 of 2018, in no particular order…

A bit all over the map here and in no particular order, these were my favorite albums released in 2018. I emphasize albums because these were solid listens as full LPs and not just a dope joint here and there. As in I dig some of Cardi’s jams, but her full length was extra meh IMO. The art of the full album isn’t gone, but it’s def rare these days. Kudos to artists that still take the time to craft something meaningful as a full listening experience. Y’all are the real heroes in this current music game. Enjoy!

Louis Cole – Time

Kali Uchis – Isolation

Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band – The Serpent’s Mouth

Buddy – Harlan & Alondra

Leon Bridges — Good Thing

Black Thought — Streams Of Thoughts Volumes 1 & 2

The Internet – Hive Mind

Anderson .Paak – Oxnard

The Midnight Hour — The Midnight Hour

Charles Bradley – Black Velvet

There’s more, and as always if you think there isn’t good music coming out these days, then you’re asleep at the wheel for real. Support independents and support real talent. Important as ever these days. Peace!
